Concert of the Erdődy Chamber Orchestra
8 January 2026, 07:00 p.m.
Liszt Academy - Solti Hall
1061 Budapest, Liszt Ferenc tér 8.
The Erdődy Chamber Orchestra has been performing György Orbán's compositions for more than 25 years. This ensemble has performed most of the composer's works for string orchestra, including the piece "Sopra il canto fermo", the last piece in the "Kájoni cycle", which was performed eight years ago in 2018. The 1st Violin Concerto is dedicated to the founder and artistic director of the orchestra, Zsolt Szefcsik, who premiered the composition with the ensemble in 2008. The chamber orchestra is also at the forefront of performing Polish works in Hungary. They have already included several works by Grażyna Bacewicz - the composer of the piece to be performed this evening - in their program and recorded them on CD, but the performance of Sinfonietta, composed in 1935, will be a Hungarian premiere. In memory of the recently deceased András Déri, the outstanding conductor of many of the chamber orchestra's previous concerts, they will perform György Orbán's Cantico di frate Sole, which they have performed together on several occasions in recent years.
